Corporate Use Case:
Users: Twelve members of the Board of Directors of a major holding Company.
Background: The Board of Directors of a major holding Company is actively involved in all the major aspects of the Company's operation from personnel decisions to mergers and acquisitions, to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
The Board has had concerns that unauthorized parties are aware of their confidential exchanges. Although it has not been proven, there is some concern that messages may be exposed as they pass through the Company's email system. This is not the only possible point of vulnerability, but it is certainly one that the Board wants to preclude.
The Board is about to enter into certain discussions of an extremely sensitive nature to themselves, the Company's employees and their investors. The Board has decided to take control itself over the security and privacy of its internal communications.
Challenge: The Company needs a method of ensuring that email messages going between the members of the Board of Directors are secure from prying eyes both in motion as messages are transmitted and when at rest, stored on a computer, now and forever.
Objective: To ensure that all communication between Board members is secure and private, now and forever.
Solution: AlphaCipher
AlphaCipher allows R&D Board members to exchange very sensitive information securely and privately. Each Team member receives his or her own storage device containing his or her unique encryption key as well as the unique decryption keys for each other member of the Team. Any available infrastructure can be used for communications between team members with complete confidence that the sensitive data is secure regardless of whether others have access to the email account or how long the messages are stored on their computers. At the same time, the Board itself has full control over the distribution and authorization associated with that key. Confidential information stored on the Board members' computers will remain secure even if the system's passwords are discovered or cracked. In addition, sensitive information stored on the laptops will remain secure even if the laptop is stolen and subjected to the most sophisticated types of exploitation.
As important is that AlphaCipher can be deployed and operated with absolutely no involvement from or exposure to outside parties, including the Company's own IT staff.
Estimated costs associated with information leakage: Millions
Cost for unbreakable encryption among the Board of Directors: < $100,000
